September 22, 7-9pm

- IWU Hansen Center. [directions]

Join the UHACC crowd on Wednesday for the usual gratuitous display of geekiness!

We will discuss the institution of "UHACC movie night" and decide if that sounds good, who gets to be the UHACC Movie Czar, or however that needs to work. Phil & Chuck will also be giving a presentation on 'net forensics, tools & techniques (see below).

Hope to see you there!

Presentation: Net Forensics: Tools & Techniques

Presented by Phil Buescher & Chuck Geigner,
September 22, 7:30pm

- IWU Hansen Center, room 200. [directions]

Ever have a server come under seige? Or get weird TCP wrapper messages, annoying spam, or strange snort logs? Phil & Chuck will discuss how to take your fragments of evidence and trace events back to their source. They will be discussing using common tools such as nmap, lsof, whois, traceroute, logfiles, ping, netstat, dig, telnet and more to diagnose problems and sniff that trail.

Presentation: Scientific Computation Using the PlayStation 2 Game Console

Presented by Craig Steffen,
October 20, 7:30pm

- IWU Hansen Center, room 200. [directions]

The Emotion Engine CPU of the Sony Playstation 2 game console has a unique architecture that makes it interesting for matrix calculations. Using available hardware and the PS2 Linux kit, Craig participated in team at the U of I that experimented with adapting it to scientific computation tasks. The kits, the matrix multiply software, and the 70-node cluster of PlayStations 2s will be discussed.

Thanks to Craig for presenting! --CG
