Installfest, technicalGreat! You've taken the initiative to look for information on our installfest. You may be wondering, What does linux have to offer you? |

Linux is free. When you try to learn a new piece of software, like how to set up and create databases, you usually have to buy the tools. Linux allows you to download and use powerful software without paying or going through a trial period. Take a look at MySQL for a database server and phpMyAdmin to make it easy.
You can learn more. Wizards and other programs that do everything for you are great, but they don't always work well. Linux gives you the ability to use those wizards and then take control yourself if something goes wrong. That combines easy administration and powerful control. Want proof? Check out Webmin.
While Windows is used on most workstations, most all companies run UNIX (or linux) servers. Knowing how to use both gives you the upper hand in the job market.
Run your own server. With the Apache web server (used more often than any other web server) and an ftp server, you can easily set up your own website. Run things your way, post your content, the best do-it-yourself kit. You can take a look at the Apache Toolbox.
If you don't know how to do something, there are plenty of other linux users on the web who will be willing to help you.
