Installfest, non-technicalGreat! You've taken the initiative to look for information on our installfest. You may be wondering, What does linux have to offer you? |

One important fact is that linux is free. When you bought your computer,
part of what you paid was for Windows. If you used linux, you could have
saved about $200 or more. The system, word
processing programs, photo editing, are all free.
Linux can eliminate pop-up ads. With a web browser (Mozilla or
Galeon), you can check a box saying not to open annoying
windows. We can show you how to do this. Those web browsers work just like Internet Explorer, but
they don't slow down and ask you to submit error reports all the time.
You'll be immune to viruses. Without needing anti-virus
software. You can safely read all your email and not worry about your files
getting erased.
The installfest is to help new people get involved and start using
linux. Our members will help install linux on your machine and set it
up for your use, without changing what you already have saved. You won't
lose your papers, mp3s, or anything else.
Come to the UHACC Installfest, September 28th on the 1st floor of the Bone
from 10:00 AM until 4:30 PM. We will show you how to do all this and more,
to make your computer work the way it should.
Linux is so easy even we can use it.
