NewsForge. OSDN's news channel. Stories geared towards OSS developers, fans, geeks.

BoingBoing. Mark Frauenfelder, Cory Doctorow, et al - excellent blog and "Directory of Wonderful Things".

The Inquirer. Spirited articles and pointed discussion on the tech issues that shape the infoscape out there. Great resource.

LXer. Excellent source for Linux lowdown.

Techdirt. Another good tech blog.

Silicon Valley. It's good to smell the air near San Jose to get the drift. This resource concentrates tech news articles from many different sources.

The Register reports IT news and pulls no punches. After slogging through watery stories and politicized rhetoric, go here for the black and white skinny, cause these Brits tell it straight.

Ars Technica. Hardcore PC tech articles, interviews, HOWTOs, guides, reviews, forums, & blog stuff. Not focused on any 1 os, hardware config, etc. Also see Linux.Ars here.

SYSTM. After G4 engulfed TechTV and stripped it of anything worth watching, Kevin Rose left and started up SYSTM. SYSTM offers excellent projects, demonstrated and explained. We dig!

Anandtech. Good hardware junkie site filled with reviews, news and other features.

Netcraft. Great Internet network, host, and domain stats plus news and other geeky 'net goodness.

Tom's Hardware Guide. Hardware reviews, benchmarks, articles, peer reviewing/blogging and comprehensive descriptions, specs, & comparisons.

Archive.org. The Internet Archive. Home of "The Wayback Machine!" No where to run; if it's been posted to the Internet for any length of time, odds are it can be dug up here. A great resource.

Geek Knowledge

LinuxQuestions.org. Wellspring full of great Linux info.

The Linux Documentation Project. (UHACC mirror) TLDP contains countless manuals, tutorials, and HOWTO's created by penguin heads around the globe.

Think Geek. Shirts, hats, tools and other nice geek gear.

New Egg. Hacker toyland! Find CPU's, mobo's, PSU's, cases, peripherals, etc etc.

Geeky Organizations

Penguicon. This is a "You got your scifi stuck in my Linux!" event. UHACC enjoys Penguicon immensely each year and throws just one helluva party on Saturday night for all of our members and Penguicon friends. A must-see!

ChLUE: Chicagoland Linux & Unix Enthusiasts. When our own alt_phil ventured out into northern Illinois, instead of spending Wednesday evenings all wracked with anxiety, he organized his own group of geeks! We toast these duct-tape weilding hacks and hope to jam with every last one of them at Penguicon! Oy!

LUCI. The Linux Users of Central Illinois. If I-55 were a street, they'd be right down the street from us.

St. Louis Unix Users' Group (SLUUG).Hey! Another Unix club! This one is in MO, as in mo linux, mo unix, mo open source advocacy! As described on their site: "Your forum for exchanging information about open standards, open systems, open source, products, services and architectures" Lead on, SLUUG!

SecurityFocus. If it's big and nasty and about to come right atcha, SecurityFocus will probably say something about it.

SANS. SANS is a good place to get the facts if there is something happening on the 'net right now. Also check out their resources page if you want a good read.

COTSE. Sec News - Sec tools - Sec references. All good.

zone-h. Decent Security site. Good info along with defacements to satisfy your morbid curiosities...
